- The aims of the research areto know the students’ identifying core parts in sentence grade X SMK N 4Padangsidimpuan, and to know the difficulties of students in identifying core parts in sentencegrade X SMK N 4Padangsidimpuan. The research was done in SMK N 4.The kindswas qualitative research by using descriptive method. The sources of data has been collected from all the respondents that was students of grade X SMK N 4 Padangsidimpuan, English teacher and headmaster.The instruments of collecting data were observation,interview and test. Based on the result of research, researcher found that the studentsidentifying core parts in sentence grade XSMKNegeri4Padangsidimpuancan be categorized is enough (45.20%). The difficultiesin learning identifying core parts in sentence were: the students are still lack of knowledge about core parts, the students don’t know kinds of sentence, the students poor of vocabularies, the students are still lack in comprehending sentence.
