- This research focused about the students’ ability in forming word by using suffix at grade X Nurul Ilmi Padangsidimpuan. The problems of research were most of the students don’t comprehend to write word into sentence and also don’t know what part of speech if a words has change into other form. The purpose of this research was to describe the students’ ability in forming word by using suffixes at grade X Nurul Ilmi Padangsidimpuan. This research was employed quantitative research by using descriptive method. The population of this research was the grade X of Nurul Ilmi Padangsidimpuan. The total of population was eight class. Then, the sample of research there are 57 students. In collecting data, the researcher used the instrument of research are test for students, the test consist of 20 items in forming word by using suffixes. The researcher used Z test for analyzing data. Based on the result of test given, researcher found that the students’ ability in forming word by using suffixes at grade X Nurul Ilmi Padangsidimpuan was high category, it could be seen from mean score 72.45. Then, based on the data collected, the data has been analyzed to prove hypothesis by using formula of Z test. It could be seen Zcount= 59.14 > Ztable= 1.96 by level of significance 0.05. It meant that the hypothesis of research was accepted. So, the students’ ability in forming word by using suffixes at grade X Nurul Ilmi Padangsidimpuan was high ability.
