- This research concerned about using animation movie to improve students’ ability in writing narrative text at grade XI MAN I Padangsidimpuan. Most of students’ lack of mastering vocabulary makes the students facing difficulties’ in choosing appropriate word in writing narrative text, students need media to improve their writing. This research purposed to describe the students’ achievement in writing ability In narrative text and students’ activities in learning process by using Animation Movie at Grade XI MAN I Padangsidimpuan. The methodology used in this research was classroom action research, by implementing the Kemmis design which consisted four steps; they were planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. In this research, the researcher used two cycles and each cycle consisted of two meetings. In addition, the participants of this research were the class of XI IPA-1 consisted of 22 students and also there was collaboration with an English Teacher. Meanwhile, the data were derived among from writing tests, observation notes, and also interview. Based on the research result showed the improvement mean score of the students in first test in the first cycle was 70.13 (22.72%) and second test in the second cycle was 93.31 (100%). In addition, it can be seen from test of significance of students’ improvement. It can be concluded that the mean score in the second cycle was higher than the first cycle. Moreover, Based on observation notes stated that the students got improvement and the students were more active and interested in learning process. Related to the interview result, it could be known that students’ writing ability in narrative text had improved. It asserted that by using Animation Movie to improve students’ writing ability in narrative text.
