- This research focused about the effect of Outlining Technique on Students’ Ability in Writing Recount Text at Grade VIII MTsN 1 Model Padangsidimpuan. The problems of this research were most of the student less on writing text, it occurs when the teacher gives some writing tests, they failed to the tests. Most of the student still get low grade with average 70; meanwhile the standard of English competency in this school is 78, and the students were poor in vocabulary mastery and they lack in writing skill. So, make students difficult in guessing and getting the main ideas of written material. The aims of this research was to find out the effect of outlining technique on students’ ability in writing recount text at grade VIII MTsN 1 Model Padangsidimpuan. This research employed experimental research. The population of this research was the eight grade of MTsN 1 Model Padangsidimpuan. The total of population were five classes. Then, the sample of the research was two classes, experiment class (VIII-3) and control class (VIII-5). It was taken randomly after conducting normality and homogeneity test. To collect the data, researcher used test for measuring students’ Writing Recount Text. To analysis the data, the researcher used t-test. Based on the result of the research, researcher showed the description of the data was found that the mean scores of experimental class was higher than control class (72>63), and the score of tcountwas bigger than ttable(10.22>2.000). It means that the hypothesis alternative (Ha) was accepted. It was concluded that there was the effect of outlining technique on students’ ability in writing recount text at Grade VIII MTsN 1 Model Padangsidimpuan. Finally, the researcher suggested the using outlining technique was effective to improve students writing skill.
