- This research was taken based on fact of the problems for the students’ ability in identifying noun phrase in sentences . The researcher discovered many problem such as students’ are not able in structure and grammatical and students’ are not able in tenses and students’ difficulties in identifying noun phrase in sentences. Finally the researcher interested in searching the students’ Ability in Identifying Noun Phrase in Sentences at grade X SMA N 1 Ulu Barumun Kecamatan Ulu Barumun Kabupaten Padang Lawas. The objectives of the research were to describe The Students’ Ability in Identifying Noun Phrase in Sentences at grade X SMA N 1 Ulu Barumun Kecamatan Ulu Barumun Kabupaten Padang Lawas. In this research, researcher used quantitative approach in the type of the descriptive method. There were 40 students as sample of the research at grade X students SMA N 1 Ulu Barumun. In collecting data, the researcher used the instrument of the research like multiple choice test for students, the multiple choice test consist of 25 items. The researcher used Z test for analyzing data. Based on the result of the research, researcher found that the students’ ability in identifying noun phrase in sentences at grade X SMA N 1 Ulu Barumun Kabupaten Padang Lawas, it was high ability, it was 88.5 means score. Then, the hypothesis was accepted by using Z-test, because Zcount =7.303> Ztable =0.37.
