- The Objective of this research is expected to find out wheather or not differentiating narative text and descriptive text of the students’ ability of SMA NEGERI 3 Parepare. This skripsi employed descriptive method which students was given the test. The population and sample was XI IPA 2 of SMA Negeri 3 Parepre. They Were consists of 28 students. The technique of sampling was one class from the all populations, the data was analyzed by using formula, mean score analyzed and classification. The method that used in this research is descriptive. The instrument that the researcher used were test which consists of 15 item of sentences. The result of the data analyzed that the students’ achievement of descriptive text is good and the mean score is 63.53. The students’ achievement of narrative text is poor and the mean score is 59.78. This indicated that the hypothesis is not accepted. The Second year of SMA Negeri 3 Parepare, exactly XI IPA 2 are not able to differentiate between descriptive text and narrative text. From the data analyzed above, the ability of the students are showed and the aim of the research is reached.
