The purposes of this research were to find out whether there were an effective or not of students reading comprehension and the effectiveness of CORI (Concept-Oriented Reading Instruction) to students’ reading comprehension to the eighth grade students in academic year of 2018/2019. The design was a pre experimental research in the form of one group pretest – posttest, it examined a sample of a class with cluster random sampling technique was used to take the sample and it was VIII B. The research was conducted at SMP Negeri 1 Anjongan from May. The Population was all of eighth grade students in the academic year of 2018/2019 and the sample choosen was VIII B consisted of 30 students. The technique of data collection applied in this research was measurement technique. The data were collected through reading comprehension test in form of objectives test and analyzed by using SPSS 16. The pretest and posttest were conducted in order to collect the data from the students. The data were analyzed by using descriptive statistic. Since the researcher used Cohen’s effect size to test the effect of the use of CORI. The result of this research based on these data collected showed the research was effective, it proved by the mean score during pretest and posttest were 72.00 and 78.91 which means there were difference before and after treatment. The SD of pretest (4.4721) were higher than SD of posttest (5.6356) it showed that the treatment was well implemented. Lastly it was proved by paired sample t-test value, sig value was smaller than α (0,00 < 0,005) which means that Ha was accepted. The effect of the use CORI at moderate effect level based on the Cohen’s effect, it was 0,66 which means strong enough to uplift students’ reading comprehension.
