  • This research was carried out to find out whether the Running Dication effective in teaching descriptive text writing to the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 16 Pontianak in the academic year of 2015/2016. Based on that purpose, the researcher intended to answer the question “Is the use of running dictation effective in teaching descriptive text writing to the seventh grade of SMPN 16 Pontianak in the Academic year of 2015/2016?.” The population of this research was the seventh grade students that consist of 8 classes and the sample of this research was VII C class that consist of 33 students taken by using cluster random sampling. The method used in this research was Pre experimental study. This research has no control group. The researcher used one group Pretest-Posttest design. The researcher used a measurement technique to collect the data that would be applied two times. The data of this research was collected from writing test that would be analyzed by using SPSS 20
