- Lignin is one of the raw materials for making surfactants, which are substances or compounds that are generally added to other compounds to reduce surface tension or as an emulsifying agent. Surfactants are not only used in the detergent industry but can also be used in the petroleum industry, etc. Sodium Lignosulfonate itself is an anionic surfactant which can be used as a soil stabilizer, textile industry solvent, and oil viscosity enhancer with low density. In this research, nyamplung seed s hell (Calophyllum inophylum) is used as a raw material for making Sodium Lignosulfonate surfactant because of its relatively large lignin content of about 36.6 % the level of lignin that reacted. The temperature used is 95 o C, the pH used is 1, 3, 5, 7 with a stirring speed of 250 rpm and within 3 hours. The tool used in this research is a three-neck reactor. This study aims to determine the decrease in the concentration of lignin in solution after reacting with H2SO4. From the research results, the best con ditions were extraction temperature at 95 o C and pH of 1 with the concentration of lignin remaining at 21.84 %.
