- The icon of an area has its own uniqueness that will make it easier for someone to recognize the origin of the area where the icon comes from. Ondel-ondel is one of the Intangible Cultures of the Betawi people which is believed to be a protector from generation to generation and is usually placed at the front of the Building.Ondel-ondel is believed to be a reinforcement repellent consisting of 2 (two) giant dolls that symbolize a man and a woman. Another icon that is also commonly used in tradisional Betawi buildings and houses is the ‘Gigi Balang’ on the lisplang. The presentation of the ondel-ondel and Gigi Balang icons can be applied in different form to alternative media of patchwork with quilting techniques into something different but still contains deep meaning.
