The design of this research was&#xD; descriptive. The population of this research was the second year students at the&#xD; English Department of Bung Hatta University. The total sample members were 23&#xD; students, and they were chosen by using total sampling technique. The instrument&#xD; used to collect the data was writing test. The correlation coefficient of the test was&#xD; .98. It means that the test was reliable.&#xD; The result of this research showed that the students at the English&#xD; Department of Bung Hatta University in general had very good ability in writing&#xD; compound sentences using correlative conjunctions. It was proved that 9 students&#xD; had very good ability, 5 students had good ability, 4 students had satisfactory&#xD; ability and 5 students had bad ability in writing compound sentences using&#xD; correlative conjunctions. Specifically, 43% students had very good ability in&#xD; writing compound sentences using correlative conjunctions with both-and. There&#xD; were 43% students who had very good ability in using not only-but also, and there&#xD; were 35% students who had good ability in using either-or, and there were 39%&#xD; students who had good ability in using neither-nor.&#xD; Based on the research findings the researcher suggested to the&#xD; students to do more exercises in writing compound sentences using correlative&#xD; conjunctions.
