writing biography at the English Department of Bung Hatta University. This research
was designed with a descriptive method. The population of this research was the
fourth year students at the English Department of Bung Hatta University. The total
number of population was 24 students.
To collect the data, the researcher used a writing test. The researcher asked
the students to write biography. Based on the results of data analysis, it was
concluded that the fourth year students' ability in writing biography at the English
Department of Bung Hatta University is very good. It was proved by the facts that
100% of them could write a biography. Specifically, 62% of students had good ability
expressing content, 79.19% of students had very good ability using grammar, 100%
of students had very good ability using vocabulary, 100% of students had very good
ability using punctuation , 91.67% of students had good ability using generic
structure.
Based on the results of the research, it can be concluded that the fourth year
students' ability in writing biography at the English Department of Bung Hatta
University was very good. Relating to the conclusion, the researcher suggests the
lecturer to give more exercise to the students to improve their ability and for the
