  • In this paper, the writer analyzes the psychological impact of discrimination experienced by the characters described in the novel On The Come Up by Angie Thomas. This novel depicts social life in the United States, where discrimination is a social problem with a psychological impact that cannot be avoided. This analysis aims to explain discrimination and the psychological effects of victims. The writer analyzes using theory discrimination and psychology. In this study, the writer used the method of interpretation and close reading to understand the novel. The results of this study indicate that discrimination most often experienced by characters is blatant discrimination. Blatant discrimination experienced by victims occurred openly and deliberately in public places which endangered the victim. The writer also found the results of this study showed the psychological impact of discrimination experienced by victims. The psychological impact that is felt by the victim is stress. The stress felt by the victim results in disruption of daily life. In conclusion, discrimination is an unpleasant treatment that puts the victim in danger and affects the victim's psychology which interferes with the victim's daily life.
