Grice stated that there are
four maxim that are involved in cooperative principles as a rule for having
conversation. This study examines the violation and flouting of maxim in
Deadpool, the utterances of characters from the film that are violating and
flouting. To achieve this goal, this study uses theory of Grice. The method used
in research is cooperative principles in conversational analysis. The results of this
study are that the character of the film violates in the form of violation and
flouting. Violation of maxim is an act by the character does not provide the
information needed by the recipient. In this film this violation is tangible in the
form of violation maxim of quality, maxim of quantity, manner and relation.
While Flouting maxim that are committed seven times by characters in the film.
Flouting maxim found only flouting maxim of quantity. Flouting maxim of
quantity is an utterance by the speaker that less or more but expecting the listener
to capture the implicit meaning of his speech.
