  • The local political setting within the Nagari community is colored by the problematic existence of local institutions and wisdom that had once been famous before the treatment and uniformity of the Village Law in 1975 (Law No. 5 of 1979 on Villages up to Law No. 6 of 2014 on Villages). There is a visible irony, when this research is focused on Nagari and its governance in West Sumatera. The issue of the renewal of Nagari cannot only be analyzed through the phenomena of autonomy and good governance, but must also be understood and viewed from factors of institutional order that is regulative, normative, and cultural, shaping the actions of political actors once they become part of the institution. By using sociological and historical analysis of neo-institutionalism and conducted by explorative postpositive method, the Nagari in West Sumatra is still an interesting study to be discussed since the journey is so complex with political dynamics.
