- The safety evaluation of medicinal plat should be carried out by means of a series of toxicity assessment including mutagenic test. Mutagenic test is required to find out the existence of mutagenic compound in this plant. The research had been done, using 50% ethanol extract of Tinospora tuberculata, with Ames method based on reverse mutagen system. Five strain of mutated bacteria ie : Salmonella typhi TA 98, TA 100, TA 1535, TA 1537 and E. coli WP2 uvr A with and without S-9 metabolic activator were tested. The characterized of simplisia and extract Tinospora tuberculata were previously determined including TLC, Densitomeri and GC. The result showed that in this study condition there is no evidence of mutagenic effect. Key words : Mutagen, characterization, Tinospora tuberculata
