  • The land condition in Indonesia is very various, viewed from its supporting ability. Soft clay, for example, is unstable soil, if it has burden. The soil condition is not ready to use as a post of building, this it needs a soil adjusment. The effort to repair the physical and mechanical characteristics of clay has been carried out physically, mechanically, and chemically. Mist climate district, like Indonesia, needs iron covering technology to protect the equiptment industrial result made of iron against the rotten. The by-product of the iron covering process is in the form of solid waste, which until so far the use of it is not maximum yet, and often problematic in its cast. So, it needs a fund to manage the waste management, such as it needs qualified end waste point. Solid waste named Electroplating Waste (LE) is green, rather blue, containing iron substance, which likely use productively, as a stabilization material. Therefore, it is needed a research on the LE material as a stabilization material of clay. The study was carried out in the Laboratory by mixing the clay, LE, and lime, with the mix variation of 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and LE of 0%, 3%, 5%, 7%, on the dried weight of clay to find out the physical and mechanical characteristics of the mixed soil. The test carried out comprised of mineral analysis through diffraction of X-ray, chemical analysis, properties indexes, compaction, the test of triaxial condition of Unconsolidated Undrained of 3 and 7 days maintenance, and CBR testing of 4 days soaked and unsoaked. The result of the study of the mix of clay, LE, and lime showed the existence of change. The addition of LE in the clay showed the existence of physical and mechanical characteristics change, through it was not as big as in the mix of soil and lime. The mix of clay, LE, and lime reduced the plasticity index value, reduced the MDD value and tended to increase the OMC value. The triaxial test showed the existence of increase on j and c, eitherby the addition of lime or LE. The highest friction angle resulting from the mix variation with the LE content of 7% and lime of 10% was of 30.15o, while the highest cohesion value resulted in the mix variation with 5% LE and 10% lime was of 235.1 kN/m2. The CBR testing carried out in the optimum variation showed a good change on the development volume and there was an increase value of CBR. The comparison between the obtained results could be taken a conclusion that LE was less effective if it is used as stabilization material of clay, but it could be used if it was mixed with lime, in relation with the pozzolanic characteristic. Key words: stabilization, clay, lime, Electroplating waste, triaxial.
