  • Mathematics is widely used in daily life, for example in trade transactions, carpentry, recording of time and so forth. Holding a role in everyday life Mathematics learning is given to equip students to think logically, analytically, critically in solving a problem. In studying each Mathematics material, one of them explains and determines the length of time an event takes place students are required to think critically and be able to solve the problem being studied. One learning model that is possible to realize effective learning in explaining and determining the length of time an event is a problem based learning model. Problem based learning model which is a learning model that is able to develop critical thinking skills in solving problems. Thus, the purpose of making this article is to conduct a theoretical study on the application of problem based learning models to the ability of students to explain and determine the length of time an event lasts. In addition to using problem based learning models to create a conducive learning environment in improving critical thinking skills and problem solving explaining and determining the length of time an event lasts, going forward will be done with the support of learning tools in the from of syllabi, lesson plans, and worksheets.
