- Indonesia has overcome several major economic crises during this period to become one of Asia’s newly industrialized economies. The unusual structural adjustment program that produced Indonesia’s long-run growth is the main theme of this detailed study. The article explains how Indonesia stabilized its economy and subdued hyperinflation by reversing the conventional sequence of economic reforms and reduced poverty and increased economic growth and incomes—despite the tight financial controls of adjustment.
