- Economic development refers to the ability of the government to provide its inhabitants with a more prosperous life. But, the wrong policies of economic development may produce a social imbalance that brings peoples to be unsuccessful in their lives; it will make a social problem. During the Indonesian economic crisis, empirical evidence showed that small enterprises could survive better than any conglomeration or giant businesses and also contributed to employment significantly. Taking these into consideration, this article discusses the development of people economy in relation to create a balanced structure of economy among small and medium enterprises and conglomeration. The development of people economy will push income distribution among the inhabitants. It may prove to be the solution to economic recovery and social stability.
