  • Abstrack: The purpose of this research was to improve the comprehension of light characters concept by using Science, Environment, Technology, And Society (SETS) learning model based video media in fifth grade students of SD Negeri Mangkuyudan No.2 Surakarta at academic year 2015/2016. The method of this research was a Classroom Action Research with two cycles. Each cycles consists of four stages: planning, implementation of the action, observation, and reflection. The subjects of this research were teacher and 28 fifth grade students of SD Negeri Mangkuyudan No.2 Surakarta at academic year 2015/2016. The data collection technique used test, observation, interview, and document. Data analysis techniques used critical analysis technique and comparative descriptive analysis technique. The result of this research indicate that the comprehension of light characters concept in the fifth grade students of SD Negeri Mangkuyudan No.2 Surakarta could be increased through Science, Environment, Technology, And Society (SETS) learning model based video media. This was evident at the initial conditions before implemented the action: the average value of class was 56,64 with 25% classical completeness percentage; at the first cycle: the average value of class was 69,75 with 67,86% classical completeness percentage; and at the second cycle: the average value of class was 75,93 with 92,86% classical completeness percentage. The conclusion of this research indicate that the use of Science, Environment, Technology, And Society (SETS) learning model based video media could improve the comprehension of light characters concept in the fifth grade students of SD Negeri Mangkuyudan No.2 Surakarta at academic year 2015/2016.Abstrak: Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan Pemahaman Konsep Sifat-sifat Cahaya Melalui Model Pembelajaran Science, Environment, Technology, And Society(SETS) Berbasis Media Video pada Siswa Kelas V SD Negeri Mangkuyudan No.2 Surakarta Tahun Ajaran 2015/2016. Bentuk penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan kelas sebanyak 2 siklus. Tiap siklus terdiri dari 4 tahapan, yaitu: perencanaan, pelaksanaan tindakan, observasi, dan refleksi. Subjek penelitian ini adalah guru dan 28 siswa kelas V SD N 1 Mangkuyudan No.2 Surakarta tahun ajaran 2015/2016.Teknik pengumpulan data digunakan teknik tes, observasi, wawancara, dan dokumen.Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah teknik analisis kritis, serta teknik analisis deskriptif komparatif. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pemahaman konsep sifat-sifat cahaya pada siswa kelas V SD N Mangkuyudan No.2 Surakarta dapat meningkat melalui penggunaan model pembelajaran Science, Environment, Technology, And Society (SETS) berbasis media video. Hal ini terbukti pada kondisi awal sebelum dilaksanakannya tindakan nilai rata-rata kelas 56,64 dengan persentase ketuntasan klasikal sebesar 25%, siklus I nilai rata-rata kelas 69,75 dengan persentase ketuntasan klasikal sebesar 67,86%, dan siklus II nilai rata-rata kelas 75,93 dengan persentase ketuntasan klasikal sebesar 92,86%. Simpulan penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan model pembelajaran Science, Environment, Technology, And Society(SETS) berbasis media video dapat meningkatkan pemahaman konsep sifat-sifat cahaya pada siswa kelas V SD N Mangkuyudan No.2 Surakarta tahun ajaran 2015/2016.
