- Abstract: The objective of research is to improve the skill in the application of concept of properties of light in the Natural Science subject matter of through the experiment-based scientific approach of the students in Grade V of State Primary School 03 of Popongan Karanganyar in Academic Year 2013/2014. This research used the classroom action research with three cycles. Each cycle consisted of two meetings and four phases, namely: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects of the research were the students as many as 20 persons in Grade V of State Primary School 03 of Popongan, Karanganyar. The data sources of the research were the class teacher and the students of the school. The data of the research were gathered through test, in-depth interview, and documentation. The data were validated by using the data source triangulation and the data gathering technique triangulation. They were then analyzed by using the interactive model of analysis. Based on the result of the research, a conclusion is drawn that the use of the experiment-based scientific approach can improve the skill to apply the concept of properties of light of the students in Grade V of State Primary School 03 of Popongan Karanganyar in Academic Year 2013/2014. Abstrak: Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan keterampilan menerapkan konsep sifat-sifat cahaya melalui pendekatan scientific berbasis eksperimen pada siswa kelas V SD Negeri 03 Popongan Karanganyar tahun ajaran 2013/2014. Bentuk penelitian ini adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) yang dilakukan selama tiga siklus. Tiap siklus terdiri dari 2 pertemuan dengan 4 tahapan yakni perencanaan, pelaksanaan tindakan, observasi dan refleksi. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas V SD negeri 03 Popongan Karanganyar yang berjumlah 20 siswa. Sumber data berasal dari guru dan siswa. Teknik pengumpulan data pada penelitian ini adalah melalui tes, wawancara guru kelas, siswa, observasi/pengamatan keterampilan menerapkan konsep sifat-sifat cahaya, angket keterampilan menerapkan konsep sifat-sifat cahaya dan dokumentasi penelitian. Validitas data yang digunakan adalah triangulasi teknik dan triangulasi sumber. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah analisis interaktif. Simpulan penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa melalui penggunaan pendekatan scientific berbasis eksperimen dapat meningkatkan keterampilan menerapkan konsep sifat-sifat cahaya siswa kelas V SD Negeri 03 Popongan Karanganyar tahun ajaran 2013/2014.
