Skripsi, Surakarta: The Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Sebelas Maret University, Surakarta, April 2014. The objective of this research is to improve the early reading skills through the application of Picture Word Inductive Model (PWIM) of the students in Grade I of State Primary School of Kasimpar in Academic Year 2013/2014. This research used the classroom action research with two cycles. Each cycle consisted of four phases, namely: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects of the research were the students as many as 23 in Grade I of State Primary School 1 of Kasimpar. The sources of the data of the research were the students and their class teacher. The data of the research were gathered through test, observation, in-depth interview, and documentation. The data were validated by using the content validity, the construct validity, data triangulation, and the method triangulation. They were then analyzed by using the descriptive comparative analysis and interactive analysis. The results of the research are as follows. Prior to the treatment, the students’ average score on the early reading skills was 57.41 with the classical learning completeness of 30.43%. Following the treatment, it becomes 71.65 with the classical learning completeness of 52.17% and 79.39 in Cycle II with the classical learning completeness of 66.95%. Based on the results of the research, a conclusion is drawn that the application of Picture Word Inductive Model (PWIM) can improve the early reading skills of the students in Grade I of State Primary School of Kasimpar in Academic Year 2013/2014.
