- Abstract: The purpose of this research was to describe the implementation of cooperative learning model type CIRC and improve the ability of summarizing the story book. The form of this research was classroom action research that consists of two cycles, each cycle consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data collection techniques used the documentation, interview, observation, and test. The techniques of data analysis used analytical interactive model that consists of three components, they are data reduction, data display, and conclusion or verification. The percentage of completeness in the pre-cycle is only 44%, then the percentage of completeness in the first cycle increase become 72%, and in the second cycle increase again become 88%. The conclusion was through the implementation of cooperative learning model type CIRC can improve the ability of summarizing the story book at the fifth grade students of SD Negeri 02 Ngasem Colomadu Karanganyar at 2012/2013 Academic Year. Abstrak: Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan implementasi model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe CIRC dan meningkatkan kemampuan meringkas isi buku cerita. Bentuk penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan kelas yang terdiri dua siklus, tiap siklus terdiri dari perencanaan, pelaksanaan tindakan, observasi, dan refleksi. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan dokumentasi, wawancara, observasi, dan tes. Teknik analisis data menggunakan teknik analisis model interaktif yang terdiri dari tiga komponen yaitu reduksi data, sajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan atau verifikasi. Persentase kentuntasan pada pratindakan hanya 44%, lalu persentase ketuntasan pada siklus I meningkat menjadi 72%, dan pada siklus II persentase kentuntasan meningkat lagi menjadi 88%. Simpulan penelitian ini yaitu penerapan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe CIRC dapat meningkatkan kemampuan meringkas isi buku cerita pada Siswa Kelas V SD Negeri 02 Ngasem Colomadu Karanganyar Tahun Ajaran 2012/2013.
