- Abstract: The purpose of this research is to improve the understanding of social problem concept in social knowledge by applying cooperative learning model of Snowball Throwing type at 4th grade students of MI Al-Islam Ngesrep. The form of this research was classroom action research that has been done in two cycles. The techniques of data analysis used analitycal interactive model. Data collection techniques used observation, interviews, documentations, and tests. The results of the research show that applying cooperative learning model of Snowball Throwing type can improve the understanding of social problem concept in social knowledge at 4th grade students of MI Al-Islam 1 Ngesrep, Ngemplak, Boyolali in academic year of 2012/2013. Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman konsep masalah sosial dalam mata pelajaran Ilmu Pengetahuan Sosial melalui penerapan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Snowball Throwing pada siswa kelas IV MI Al-Islam 1 Ngesrep. Bentuk penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan kelas yang dilakukan dalam dua siklus. Teknik analisis data menggunakan teknik analisis model interaktif. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan observasi, wawancara, dokumentasi, dan tes. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Snowball Throwing dapat meningkatkan pemahaman konsep masalah sosial dalam mata pelajaran Ilmu Pengetahuan Sosial pada siswa kelas IV MI Al-Islam 1 Ngesrep, Ngemplak, Boyolali tahun ajaran 2012/2013.
