- The objective of the study is to find out whether the use of contextual teaching and learning approach will be able to improve the students writing ability in procedure text at the State Junior High School 7 Metro. Writing is the expression of language in the form of letters, symbols, and words. Through writing someone can share tehir knowledge, conveying idea, feeling and intention to the other people. In teaching learning process, the teacher should be able to create or choose the suitable and good approach. Contextual teaching and learning is one of the approach that can be applied in the teaching English, especially teaching writing ability in procedure text. The research uses classroom action research which was done in two cycles. Each cycle consists of planning, acting, observing and reflecting. The subject of this research is VIII A class. In collecting the data the researcher used test ( pre test, post test 1 and post test 2 ), observation and documentation. The result of this research shows that riting ability in procedure text at the eighth grade of State Junior High School 7 Metro. It can be proved by the -test to post test. The average score in pre-test was 61,8, post-test 1 was 69 and post-test 2 was 77,2. It mean that the using of contextual teaching and learning approach as a approach could improve the
