  • This research was aimed at detecting the influence of applying diary (X) towardthe students‘ ability in writing recount text (Y) at the eleventh grade of VocationalHigh School Kartikatama I Metro. The problems identified was the studentsfound difficulties in writing recount text because of not having ideas. Diaryhelpes the students in finding the ideas. From Diaries the students found manyinformation and illustration. In this case, the writer tried to investigate whetherthere was influence of Writing Diary toward the students‘ ability in writingrecount text. The population of the research was the eleventh grade students and the sample ofthe research was 40 students. The writer conducted quasi experimental design, byapplying pretest and post-test as the instrument. In accordance with the method inpresent research, experimental design, the data was analyzed by using t-test thatenable to investigate the differences between the result of pre-test before treatmentand the result of post-test after treatment. Moreover, the result of data analysis illustrates that t observed = 9.631 and iscategorized into high influence. Next, t observed is consulted to t table at thesignificant level of 5% = 2,030 and 1% = 2,725. Finally, the data confirms t observedis higher than ttable. Thus, it can be inferred that the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) isaccepted. There is positive and significant influence between the result of pre-testand post-test at the eleventh grade of Vocational High School Kartikatama I Metro. From the explanation above the writer concludes that there is positive andsignificant influence of writing diary toward the student’s ability in writingrecount text.
