  • The purpose of this research was to know whether the use of CooperativeIntegrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) strategy can improve the students’reading comprehension in English learning at the SMPN 10 Metro. The kind of this research was classroom action research (CAR) which wasconducted in two cycles. Each cycle consists of planning, acting, observing andreflecting. Object of this research was the students’ reading comprehension. Incollecting the data, used test, observation, and documentation. The result of this research showed thatCooperative Integrated Readingand Composition (CIRC) strategy had positive role in improving the readingcomprehension at the eighth grade ofSMPN 10 Metro. It can be proved by thestudents’ average score from pre test to post test. The average score in pre test was47,96 and in post test was 57.22 became 72.96. It means that the using ofCooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) strategy in readingespecially text can improve the students’ reading comprehension. Based on theresult above, could be conclude that by using CIRC as a alternative strategy toimprove the students’ reading comprehension at the SMPN 10 Metro.
