- The objective of this research were to analyze the types of error which wasdone about redundancy in students’ writing performance and to find the reasonswhy the students made errors about redundancy in their writing. The method used in this study was qualitative research. The types of thisstudy belonged to case study. Meanwhile, the qualitative design applied in thisstudy was descriptive study. Furthermore, the subject of this study was student atthird semester of English Departement of IAIN Metro which was consisted of 30students. The data were collected trought test, interview and documentation. Finally, the result of data analysis ilustrated that most of the students stillgot difficulties in mastering about redundancy. The errors frequently appeared instudent writing performance was redundant word, the total of errors were 114items or (50%), then the next errors were 89 items (39%) of redundant phrase and23 items (11%) of redundat clause. Furthermore, based on students’ responsedwhen interviewed, the researcher summarized that the cause of errors which weremade by the students’ was intralingual transfer.
