  • Writingis one of the most important skills in language teaching and learning. Certainly, learnersuse written language to communicate and to forward messages or ideas.However, based on the data pre survey, the researcher identified some problems faced by students such asthe students have low motivation in writing performance especially in writing recount text. The students do not have sufficiency of vocabulary and grammar mastery. In addition, they do notusethe effectivetechnique to increasetheir writing. In this case, the researcher collaborated with the teacher to apply a brainstorming technique to increase the students’ writing performance. Theobjective of this research is to find out whether there is asignificant influence of using brainstorming technique onthe students’ writing recount text performance. Brainstorming technique is one of the techniques in writing that can help the students to generate many ideas in prewriting stage without concerning about quality of ideas. The researcherconducted quantitative research in form true experimental design, by givingpre-test and post-test as the instrument. But, only experimental class which was given treatment by using brainstorming technique. In this research, the researcher used test and documentationmethod to collect the data. Furthermore, theresult of data analysisby using ttestwas t observed= 2,88and ttabelinlevel of 5% = 1,690) and 1% = 2,438. Finally, from the data, it can be seen that t observedis higher than t table. Itmeans thatthe Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. Itcan be inferred thatthere is any significant influence of usingbrainstorming techniqueonthe students’ writingrecount textperformance at SMA N 1 Punggur Central Lampung
