  • vSUMMARYPertiwiZukhrufaSatata.2019.TheRelationshipbetweenLearnerAutonomyandEnglishproficiencyofEFLStudentsinUniversitasNegeriMalang.Thesis.EnglishDepartmentFacultyofLettersStateUniversityofMalang.Advisors(1)Prof.H.Moh.AdnanLatiefM.A.Ph.D.(II)Dr.EnnyIrawatiM.Pd.KeyWordslearnerautonomyEnglishproficiencyEFLstudentsThisstudyaimstofindouttherelationshipbetweenlearnerautonomyandEnglishproficiencyofEFLstudentsinUniversitasNegeriMalang.Therehasbeenagrowinginterestinlearnerautonomymainlybecauselearnerautonomyinstudentscanhelpthemdeveloptheirlife-longlearning.Inadditionlearnerautonomyinlanguagelearningcanhelpthestudentstomasterthelanguagetheylearn.Inthisstudylearnerautonomydescribesthestudentsinvolvementintheaspectsoftheirlearningincludingdeterminingtheobjectivesdefiningthecontentsandprogressselectingthemethodsandtechniquesmonitoringtheacquisitionprogressandevaluatingwhathasbeendone.Theresearchdesigniscorrelation.LearnerautonomyistheXvariableandEnglishproficiencyistheYvariable.QuestionnairewasusedtomeasurethestudentslearnerautonomyandICGPAwasusedtomeasurethestudentsEnglishproficiency.SpearmansRhowasappliedtofindouttherelationshipbetweenthestudentslearnerautonomyandEnglishproficiency.ThesubjectsofthisstudywerethesecondsemesterEFLstudentsinUniversitasNegeriMalang.ThesecondsemesterstudentswerechosenbecausetheyhavereceivedtheirICGPAinthefirstsemester.Thesamplesweretakenbyusingsimplerandomsampling.Thereweresevenclassesintotal.Ineachclasstensamplesweretaken.TheresultdemonstratesthatthereisamoderatesignificantcorrelationbetweenlearnerautonomyandEnglishproficiencyofEFLstudentsinUniversitasNegeriMalang..ItcanbeconcludedthatthestudentswithhigherleveloflearnerautonomyarebenefitedintermsofhavinghigherEnglishproficiency.TheresultofthisstudyisexpectedtoinformthereadersabouttheimportanceoflearnerautonomyinforeignlanguagelearningincludingEnglish.Therecommendationforfutureteachersistheteachershouldhelpthestudentsenhancetheirlearnerautonomy.Therecommendationforfutureresearchersistoincludesubjectsfromnon-Englishmajorsorstudentsfromdifferentuniversities.
