  • BasedontheresearchersexperienceinteachingEnglishandpreliminarystudyconductedtheabilityofthesecondyearstudentsofMTsNMalangIinwritingparagraphwasstillunsatisfactory.Thestudentswerenotabletoexpresstheirideasinagoodparagraph.Theymademanymistakesintheirwritingintermsofcontentorganizationlanguageuseandmechanics.ToovercomethisproblemtheresearcherproposedoneofthesuitablestrategiesintheteachingEnglishwritingrecountusingpictureseries.TheresearchaimedatimprovingthestudentsabilityinwritingrecountusingpictureseriesemployingCollaborativeClassroomActionResearch.Boththeresearcherandhiscollaboratorworkedtogetherinplanningimplementingobservingtheactionandreflectingthedatacollectedfromtheteachingandlearningprocessandthestudentswritingproducts.Thesubjectsofthisresearchwere29studentsofgrade8BofMTsNMalangIJawaTimurProvince2008/2009academicyear.Theresearchwasconductedinthreecycleseachofwhichhadonemeeting.Thefindingsprovedthatusingpictureserieshadimprovedstudentsabilityinwritingrecount.Thestepswere(1)theteachergavethepictureseriestogroupsoffourstudents(2)theteacheraskedthestudentstofindwordsorthenamesofobjectsofthepictureseries(3)theteachertaughtthestudentsaboutthesimplepasttensebyaskingthemtomakesomesentencesorallybasedonpictureseries(4)theteacheraskedthestudentstofindideasofthepictureseries.Basedontheabovefindingsthesuggestionsaremade(1)todeveloptheteachersstrategyinapplyingpictureseriesitissuggestedthatteacherssocializethestrategyinteachersmeetingworkshopstrainingsortowritearticlesaboutwritingwhichusespictureseriesstrategyinthestudentsbooksorjournals(2)itisrecommendedthatthestudentsusepictureseriesasalearningstrategytopracticetheirwritingabilitywhichcanbedoneintheirextracurricularactivity(3)futureresearchersaresuggestedtoconductasimilarstudyusingpictureserieswithdifferentsettingandsubjectsfortheimprovementoftheteachingwritingrecount.
