- This study is intended to increase the students rsquo vocabulary mastery in terms of descriptive text by using spelling bee games. nbsp According to the result of the preliminary study more than 50% of grade VII-F students of SMP Negeri 1 Prigen could master more vocabulary by using dictionary. The students did not have the willingness to learn English. The research design of this study is a Classroom Action Research that consists of one cycle only. In doing this study the researcher involved 33 students of Class VII-F as the respondent of the research study. The data was collected by observation checklist questionnaire and vocabulary test. The students rsquo vocabulary mastery was enhanced in one cycle from the mean score in the preliminary study was 60 to 85 in the post vocabulary test. From the analysis in the teaching and learning process and vocabulary test it was found that using spelling bee games gives satisfactory results on vocabulary mastery. Finally it is suggested that the English teacher with the same class situation apply the spelling bee games as one of the alternative teaching strategies to teach vocabulary mastery.
