  • KeyWordserrorrecountpasttenseThisthesisisastudyabouttheerrorsinusingpasttenseinrecountparagraphmadebytheeighthgradersofSMPNegeri1JiwanMadiun.Studentsconsiderwritingisthemostdifficultskillthanothers.Thereforeinwritingarecountparagraphthestudentsoftenmakeerrors.Thisstudywasconductedundertheconsiderationthatpasttenseplaysanimportantroleinwritingarecountparagraph.ThepurposesofthisstudyaretofindoutthetypesoferrorsoftheuseofpasttenseinrecounttextmadebytheeighthgradersstudentsofSMPNegeri1JiwanMadiunandtofindoutthepossiblecausesofthoseerrors.Thestudywasconductedusingdescriptiveapproach.ThesampleofthisstudywastheeighthgradersofSMPNegeri1JiwanMadiun8Dwhichconsistedof33students.Thesourceofthedatawasrecountparagraphmadebythestudents.Theinstrumentsthatwasusedareachecklistandinterviewtotheteacherandsomeofthestudents.ThechecklistisbasedonthesurfaceStrategytaxonomybyDulaythatconsistoferrorofomissionerrorofadditionerrorofmisformationanderrorofmisorderingandtheCausesoferrorsbyRichardthatconsistofovergeneralizationignoranceofrulerestrictionincompleteapplicationofruleandfalseconcepthypothezised.Inanalyzingthedataerroranalysisisusedinwhichtherewerethreestepstheyareidentifyingtheerrorsputtingtheerrorsinchecklisttablesandthelaststepisevaluationoferrors.Theresultoftheanalysisshowsthattherewere239errorsfrom223sentences.Theywere98errorsofmisformationthatconsistedofmisformationofverbmisformationofprepotisionmisformationofbeandomissionofpluralnounmarker.81errorsofomissionthatconsistedofomissionofedomissionofdefinitearticleomissionofbeomissionofpluralnounmarker.50errorsofadditionthatconsistedofadditionofbeadditionofprepositionadditionofdefinitearticle.And10errorsofmisorderingthatconsistedofmisorderingofadverbandmisorderingofnounphrase.Thefactorsthatcausedthestudentstomakeerrorsinthewritingskillswere6errorsentenceswerecausedbyovergeneralization102errorsentencescausedbyignoranceofrulerestriction43errorsentencescausedbyincompleteapplicationofruleand20errorsentencescausedbyfalseconcepthypothesized.BasedontheresultoftheresearchitissuggestedthatEnglishteachershouldpayattentiontotheareaofdifficultiesinEnglishgrammar.ByknowingtheerrorsmadebythestudentstheteachershoulduseitasfeedbacktoknowtheareaofdifficultiesinlearningEnglishpasttense.Thelasttheteachershouldbeabletoexplaintothestudentsaboutpasttensebyusingthesituationaroundthemastheexampleinusingpasttenserule.Thenextresearchersareexpectedtoinvestigatethe
