  • WritingisusuallyconsideredthemostdifficultskillofEnglishtomaster.Injuniorhighschoollevelstudentsfacesomeproblemsinwriting.Mostofthestudentsperformpoorlyintheirwriting.Basedontheresearchersinterviewwiththestudentsthemajorproblemsfacedbythemarehowtogenerateideasandhowtoorganizetheideaswell.Toovercometheproblemsanoutliningstrategyintheformofwordwebsisproposedtobeappliedinteachingwriting.Thetechniqueischosenbecauseitissimpleandgoodforstudentsinthejuniorhighschoollevel.TogenerateandorganizetheirideaswellstudentshavetoanswerWH-questionsinthewordwebs.Theobjectiveofthestudyistoincreasestudentswritingabilityingeneratingandorganizingtheirideasforwritingrecountcompositionsusingoutliningstrategy.ClassroomActionResearch(CAR)isusedinthisstudy.Theresearchisconductedintwocycleseachcyclecoversplanninganactionimplementingtheactionobservingtheactionandreflectingontheobservation.ThesubjectswerethestudentsofclassVIII.GofSMP10Malangwhichconsistedof35students.Therewerethreekindsofdatagainedthestudentsscorestheresultofinterviewsandfieldnotes.Thedatagainedfromtheinterviewswereconvertedintoadescriptionofthestudentsresponsestowardtheimplementationofthetechnique.Thefieldnoteswerepresentedintoanexplanationdescribingthestudentsattitudesandtheconditionoftheclassroom.Theresultoftheresearchshowedthattheoutliningstrategyintheformofwordwebseffectivelyincreasedthestudentswritingabilityingeneratingandorganizingideasofwritingrecounts.ThescoresofthestudentswritinginCycle2significantlyincreasedcomparedtothescoresofthestudentswritinginthepreliminarystudy.Thesignificantimprovementofthestudentsscoresmightalsohavebeeninfluencedbythefollowingadditionalfactorsmoretimeprovidedtothinkandpracticewritingrecountcompositionsandanopportunityforstudentstochoosetheirowntopic.BasedontheresultofthisstudyitissuggestedthatEnglishteachersapplytheoutliningstrategyintheformofwordwebsintheteachingofwritingrecounttoincreasestudentswritingabilityingeneratingandorganizingtheirideaswell.Inadditionfurtherresearchersaresuggestedtousemorerespondentsindifferentsettingandconditionstoseewhetherthetechniquecanbeimplementedeffectively.
