- ThewritingabilityofthesecondyearstudentsofSMPN6Malangwasunsatisfactory.Theywereunabletoexpresstheirideasintowritingandwriteinagoodorder.Picturesequenceswereproposedasanalternativestrategytosolvetheproblems.Thestudywasdesignedtoimprovestudentswritingabilitythroughimplementingpicturesequences.Theobjectiveofthestudywastofindouthowpicturesequencescanbeimplementedtoimprovestudentswritingability.Thisstudywasacollaborativeclassroomactionresearchwhichconsistedofthreecycleseachofwhichconsistedoffourstepsnamelyplanningtheactionactingontheplanobservingtheactionandreflectingontheobservation.Thesubjectsofthisstudywere40studentsofVII-IclassofSMPN6Malangintheacademicyearof2007/2008.Theinstrumentsusedtocollectthedataweretheobservationchecklistsfieldnotesquestionnairesandthestudentswritings.Thedatafromtheobservationandquestionnaireswerepresentedintheformoftableswhilethedatagainedfromthefieldnotesandstudentswritingwereanalyzedandreporteddescriptively.Theresultofthisstudyshowedthatthepicturesequencesstrategywaseffectivelyimprovingthestudentswritingability.Theimprovementonthestudentswritingabilitycouldbeseenfromtheresultofthestudentswritingswhichshowedthattheywereabletoexpresstheideastellthestoriesinagoodorderandwritethestorieswiththeappropriatecontentlanguageuseandspelling.Moreovertheimplementationsofpicturessequencesalsobroughtpositivestudentsattitudeduringtheteachingandlearningprocess.Theywerehappyandexcitedtohavepicturesequences.Thereweresomeprocedurestobefollowedinimplementingthepicturesequencesstrategy.Firstthestudentswereintroducedtothepicturesequences.Secondtheywereaskedtoidentifytheaspectsofstoriesanddeterminetheobjectsofthestoriesbasedonthepicturesequences.Thirdtheywereaskedtomaketheoutlineanddeveloptheoutlineintoaparagraph.Finallytheywereaskedtoeditthestoriesintermsofthecontentlanguageuseandspelling.Inadditionthestudentsweretaughtthesentencestructureorganizationvocabularypunctuationandspelling.ItissuggestedthatEnglishteachersusepicturesequencesinteachingwritinginordertomakestudentsgetusedtothewritingactivities.Itisalsosuggestedotherresearchersconductsimilarstudieswithdifferentskillssettingandmorerespondentsfortheimprovementofthewritingskills.
