- InMeaningflnessApproachtheemphasisofrearningaforeignlanguageisusingthetargetlanguageusumeunsofcommunicartioens.-stateaineyttalus_ofteachingEnglishinSeniorHighschooltheobjectiveofteachingEnglish.inthegeniorhighschoolinlndonesiiistomakethesiudentspossessmotivationandabilities(to.communicatein)Englishthatisinreadinglisteningspeakingandwiting.SotheregularEnglishclaiseshaveti-dealwithfourlanguageskillsinaverylimitedtime.officiallythemainfocusoftheteachingofEnglishinIndonesiaisonthereadings-titt.lnfactideallytheaimofteachingaforeignlanguageistoenablethestudentstospeakttt.tg.tlanguageM.oreoverinthisglobalizationeraEnglish.pukingstittisiigtrtyneededmorethantheotherEnglishskills.----IdeallyaspeciaElngrishspeakingcrassshouldbeconductedatschoolbutitcannotbeinsertedtotheregularengtistrclassesI.nlinewiththisissueanEnglishconversatiocnlassseemstobeagoodwaytoimproveandmotivatetlestudentstospeakthetargetlanguageT.hJquestionleftiswhetheraconversationclassasanextracurriculaarctivityisreallyionductedaswellastheexpectation.ThepresensttudyaimsatdescribingtheEnglishconversationrluextracurricularactivtryatSMUN9Malang.ItincludesthepurposeofconductingtheEnglishconversationclassthefacilitiesundmat6riulsusedbytheteachertheteachingandlearningprocesstheteachersandthestudentsopinionabouttheprogramandtheeffectsofhavinganEnglishconversationclassasanextracurriculaarctivitytothestudents.ThesubjectsofthisstudywerethefirstgradestudentswhojoinedtheEnglishconversationclassasanextmcurricularactivityatSMUNlvutg.Thisstudywasdescriptivewiththedesignofsinglecasestudy.Thedatawerecollectedtfuoughquestionnaireisnterviiwdocumentationandobservation.ThedatafromtheinterviewdocumentationandobservationwereanalyzeddescriptivelyT.hedatafromthestudentsquestionnairewsereanalyzdtofindthepercentagoefstudentsresponseasndalsoanalyzeddescriptiverieylatedtothereasonsoftheanswer.ThefindingshowglhatthepurposeofconductingtheEnglishConversatiocnlassatSMLIN9MalangwastomotivateihestudJntstospeaklllusingthetargetlanguageT.helowspeakingabilityofstudentsgraduatedfromSMUwhohadbeenstudyingEnglishforsixyearsalsobecametheconsiderationfortheschooltoprovidethestudentswithbetterEnglishproficiencyespeciallyinspeakingT.heextracurriculaarctivityalsoaimsatdevelopingthestudentsself-confidencaendencouragintghestudentstousethetargetlanguageasameansofcommunication.AnotherfindingshowsthatthefacilitiesandmaterialsusedbytheteacherwereprovidedbyBOMS(BantuanOperasionaMlanajemenSekolah)theschoolitseltheparentsassociationtheteacherandthesfudentsthemselvesM.ostofthefundwasthenusedtoprovidetheprogramwiththefacilitiesneededT.hematerialsforthespeakingactivitieswereintheformofahandbookwhichwasconstructedbytheteacherhrmself.Itcouldgivethestudentsmorecommunicativexercises.ThethirdfindingwasabouttheteachingandlearningprocessintheEnglishConversationclassasanextracurricularactivityatSMLJN9Malang.TheclasswasconductedtwiceaweekeverySaturdayandSundayoutsidetheschoolhours.Thematerialsfromthesupplemenbtookwereusedasthemainpracticelessonsintheteachingandlearningprocess.Thenextfindingwastheteachersandsfudentsopinionabouttheprogam.Boththeteacherandstudentsenjoyedtheprogramverymuch.Theirwillingnessandhighmotivationwerethemostimportantfactorsofthesuccessoftheimplementationoftheprogram.ThelastfindingshowsthattheEnglishConversationclassconduotedbySMLIN9Malanggavegoodeffectstothestudentswhojoinedtheprogram.Itcouldbeseenfromthestudentsabilityinspeakingusingthetargetlanguage.BasedonthepositivefindingsitissuggestetdhattheEnglishConversationclassshouldbeconductedasacompulsoryextracurricularactivityregardlesosfsomelimitationssuchasfundcapableteachersandalsofacilities.SotheaimofteachingEnglishwhichistoenablethestudentstopossessmotivationandabilitiesincommunicationusinsEnelishcanbereachedappropriately.lv
