  • TheStateUnivelsityofMalangEnglishDepartmentisknownfortheexcellenceofitsprogramandforhighlevelofEnglishproficiency.TheinputoftheStateUniversityofMalangEnglishDepartmentcomesfromvariousbackgroundofsecondaryeducationandvariouslevelsofEnglishproficiency.ThegoaloftheStateUnlersityofMalangEnglishDepartrnentistoprovidethestudentswithsufficientEnglishproficiencyknowledgeofEnglishtheculturalbackgroundandliteratureoftheEnglishnativespeakers.ThisinstitutionissupposedtoprovidegoodEnglishcurriculumqualifiedteacherstextbooksandmediaandalsoappropriatetechniques.ThereforetheresearchewrantstoknowthestudentsEnglishproficiencyatthebeginningandaftertheystudyforalmostthreeyearsattheStateUniversityofMalangEnglishDepartrnent.Thisstudyisintendedto(1)measurestudentsEnglishproficiencyatbeginningoftheirstudyattheStateUniversityofMalangEnglishDeparhnent(2)measurestudentsEnglishproficiencyaftertheystudyforalmostthreeyearsattheStateUniversityofMalangEnglishDepartmentand(3)findouttheprogressofthestudentsEnglishproficiencyafterstudyingEnglishattheStateUniversityofMalangEnglishDepartmentbothasindicatedbythescoresthattheygainandastheyperceive.TheresearchsubjectsarealltheeducationasltudentsoftheStateUniversityofMalangEnglishDeparimentwhowereacceptedinl997andarecurrentlyinthe6osemesterT.hereare27subjectsforthedataoftheTOEFLtestandllstudentsasasampleforthedaaofinterview.ThedatafromtheTOEFLtestareanalyzedbyusingt-testforcorrelatedsamples.Thedatafromtheinterviewareanalyzedandpresentedinadescripiveway.TheresultoftheTOEFLtestshowsthatstudentsEnglishprofiencyaftertlreeyearsofstudyattheStateUniversityofMalangEnglishDepartmentisbetterthantheirEnglishproficiencyatthebeginningoftheirstudyattheStateUniversityofMalangEnglishDeparfinent.Thecomputationusingthet-testforcorrelatedsamplesshowsthatthet-valueis16.45.Itismuchbiggerthanthecriticalt-value2.056whichisneededinanondirectionatlestforthelevelofsigrificanceof.05.Sothealtemativehypothesisisaccepted.WecansaythatthereisasigrrificantdifferencebetweentheEnglishproficiencyofstudentsatthebeginningoftheirstudyandaftertheystudyattheStateUniversityofMalangEnglishDepartmentforalmostthreeyears.Theresultoftheinterviewshowsthat45.45o/ooftherespondentsfeelthattheyhavemadesomeprogressand54.55%oftherespondentsfeelthattheyhavemadealotofprogressTheimportantfactorsthathelptheminmakingprogressfromthemostimportanttotheleastareteachersfactorfriendsfacilitiestheirownefforttostudytelevisiorqandEnglishnewspapers.TheimportantfactorsthatpreventthemfrommakingprogressastheyexpectaretheirlazinesstoimprovetheirEnglishandthelackofEnglishsupportingenvironmentandfacilities.BasedontheresultofdataanalysisitcanbeconcludedthatthereisasigrificantdiflerencebetweenstudentsEnglishproficiencyatthebeginningoftheirstudyandafterthreeyearsofstudyattheStateUniversityofMalangEnglishDepartment.Theteachersfactoristhemostimportantfactorinhelpingstudentstomakeprogress.FinallybasedontheexplanationaboveitissuggestedfirstthatthelecturersoftheStateUniversityofMalangEnglishDepartmenkteepimprovingtheirinstructionaqlualitysecondtheheadoftheStateUniversityofMalangEnglishDepartmensthouldaskalltheEnglishdepartrnenltecturerstospeakEnglishinordertocreateEnglishsupportingenvironmentthirdthestudentsoftheStateUniversityofMalangEnglishDepartmentshouldincreasetheirmotivationfourtlqlandladiesshouldprovidetelevisionintheirboardinghousefifththeStateUniversityofMalangEnglishDepartmentshouldprovidebetterfacilitiessuchasanEnglishLibraryoftheEnglishandthelanguagelaboratoryasSelfAccessCenterforthestudentssixthotherresearchershouldconductthestudytocomparetheinputandoutputofthestudentsEnglishproficiencyfromdifferentbackgroundofsecondaryeducationfinallytheinputandoutputofthestudentsEnglishProficiencyattheSlateUniversityofMalangEnglishDepartmenotvertimeshouldalwaysbecomparedtomonitortheeffectivenessofprogramoftheStateUniversityofMalangEnglishDepartrnent.vl
