- ivSUMMARYGelistaRaraKirana.JuniorHighSchoolStudentsPerceptiontowardstheImplementationofComputerBasedNationalExamination(CBNE)2018inMalangMunicipality.UndergraduateThesis.EnglishLanguageTeachingProgramEnglishDepartmentFacultyofLettersStateUniversityofMalangAdvisorIProf.H.AliSaukahM.A.Ph.D.AdvisorIIProf.Dr.GunadiH.SulistyoM.A.KeywordsStudentsPerceptionComputerBasedNationalExamination(CBNE)ComputerBasedAssessmentAcceptanceModel(CBAAM)PerceivedEaseofUse(PEOU)PerceivedUsefulness(PU)Content(CT)ThedevelopmentoftechnologytodayalongwiththepopularityofInformationandCommunicationTechnology(ICT)hasasignificantimpactonadministeringnationalexaminationinIndonesia.ItisthenrealizedintheformofComputerBasedNationalExamination(CBNE).HowevertheimplementationofCBNEin2018wasstillfacingvariousproblemsincludingproblemsrelatedtotechnicalissuesandproblemsrelatedtothecontentoftheexamination.ThoseproblemsmightcausedifferentperceptionstowardsCBNE2018amongstudents.ThustheaimofthisstudyistodescribeJuniorHighSchoolsstudentsperceptionstowardsCBNE2018inMalangMunicipalityidentifyproblemsrelatedtotechnicalissuesandproblemsrelatedtothecontentofthetestencounteredbystudentswhentakingCBNE2018andalsoinvestigatestrategiesusedbystudentstoovercometheproblems.Thedatainthisstudywasquantitativeandqualitativedata.Thequantitativedatawasaboutstudentsperceptionwhilethequalitativedatawasaboutproblemsrelatedtotechnicalissuesandthecontentofthetestandstrategiesusedbystudentstoovercometheproblems.ThestudentsperceptionwasdescribedbasedonthreedimensionsofComputerBasedAssessmentAcceptanceModel(CBAAM)whichwerePerceivedEaseofUse(PEOU)PerceivedUsefulness(PU)andContent(CT).ThedesignofthisstudywasanInternetsurveyusingcross-sectionaldesign.ThedatawascollectedthroughaquestionnairewhichwasadministeredbyusinganInternetsurveyservicecalledGoogleform.Theparticipantswere140JuniorHighSchoolstudentsinMalangmunicipalitywhohadtakenCBNE2018.Thequantitativedatawasanalyzedusingpercentagewhilethequalitativedatawasanalyzedusinginterpretation.TheresultsshowthatthemajorityoftherespondentsinthisstudyhadapositiveperceptiontowardstheimplementationofCBNE2018basedonPEOUPUandCT.InotherwordstheyhadastrongperceptionthattakingCBNE2018wasfreeofefforttheCBTsystemforEnglishNE2018couldenhancetheirjobperformanceandthequestionsinEnglishCBNE2018wereusefulclearandunderstandable.DespitethefactthatmostoftherespondentsinthisstudyhadpositiveperceptionstowardstheimplementationofCBNE2018variousproblemsrelatedtotechnicalissueswereidentifiedsuchasinadequatecomputerdevicesincludingthemouseandkeyboardproblemswithadjustingthescreenbrightnessunstablevInternetconnectionproblemswithlogintokenwasdeliveredlatesupplyelectricityinterruptionserverdownandinsufficienttimeallocation.Inadditionthemainstrategyusedbystudentstoovercomethosevarioustechnicalissueswasaskingforhelpfromtheproctortechnicianortestsupervisor.ItimpliesthattheroleofproctortechnicianandtestsupervisorisveryimportantintheimplementationofCBNE2018.BesidesproblemsrelatedtothetechnicalissuesproblemsrelatedtothecontentofEnglishnationalexaminationwerealsoidentifiedintheimplementationofCBNE2018.TheproblemsincludemoredifficultquestionsunabletounderstandthereadingpassagesmoredifficultvocabulariesthepictureswerenotclearenoughthefontwastoosmallinabilitytotakenotesorunderlinesomewordsincompatiblewiththeblueprintandlowEnglishproficiency.Inadditionvariousstrategiesusedbystudentstoovercomethoseproblemswerealsoidentifiedsuchasthinkingharderansweringrandomlycheatingansweringastheycanansweringtheeasiestonereadingthepassagesmorethanonceorskippingitguessingthemeaningbyrelatingthewordswiththecontextwearingglassestakingdistanceslightlyfromthecomputerscreentakingashortbreakandpraying.MoreovertherespondentsrealizedthattheyshouldstudyEnglishharderinordertoperformbetterinCBNEinthefuture.InsummarytheimplementationofCBNE2018wasconsideredgoodenougheventhoughtherewereseveralthingsthatshouldbeimprovedforbetterimplementationinthefuture.
