  • vABSTRACTAisah.2018.TheCorrelationBetweenReadingHabitandWritingAbilityAmongStudentsofSeniorHighSchool.UndergraduateThesisDepartmentofEnglishFacultyofLettersUniversitasNegeriMalang.Advisors(I)Prof.H.MohammadAdnanLatiefM.A.Ph.D.(II)Dr.EkaningDewantiLaksmiM.Pd.M.A.KeywordsReadinghabitWritingAbilityCorrelation.Theobjectiveofthisresearchistoexaminethecorrelationbetweenstudentsreadinghabitandtheirwritingability.Severalstudiesfoundthatthereisapositivesignificantbetweenthestudentsreadinghabitandthestudentswritingability.Hencethisstudywillgivecontributionstothepreviousstudiesifitfindsthatthecorrelationbetweenthestudentsreadinghabitandthestudentswritingabilityhaveapositivesignificant.Thedesignofthisresearchwascorrelationalresearchdesign.Thesubjectsofthisresearchwerethestudentsof11thgradeatSMAN3Sampang.Theresearchertook3classesbasedontherankingofthestudents.Theywerethehigheronetheaverageoneandthethelowerone.Therewere77studentsparticipatinginthisreserach.Theinstrumentsusedinthisresearchwereaquestionnaireintomeasurethestudentsreadinghabitandawritingtestintomeasurethestudentswritingability.Theinstrumentsbeentriedouttomakesurethattheinstrumentswerepropertobeused.Thedatawerecalculatedbyusingastatisticalmethod.ThePearsonProductMomentCorrelationCoefficientwasappliedintoanalyzethecorrelationbetweenthetwovariables.Thefindingsshowthatthereisapositivesignificantcorrelationbetweenthestudentsreadinghabitandthestudentswritingability(r61501.9136155461501.0005).Itcanbeconcludedthatthehigherthestudentsreadinghabitscorethehighertheachivementthestudentsmakeintheirwritingability.TheimplicationofthisresearchisfortheEnglishteachers.Theyshouldenhancethestudentsreadinghabitbecausethestudentsreadingcanincreasethestudentswritingability.BasedonthefindingsofthisresearchseveralsuggestionsareaddressedtoEnglishteachersandfutureresearchers.TheEnglishteachersaresuggestedthattheyshouldbeabletomaketheEnglishlearningsituationmoreenjoyableandfuninordertomakethestudentsfellmotivatedtolearbEnglish.Thefutherresearchersaresuggestedthatthefutherresearchersemploythefindingsofthisresearchastheirreference.
