  • A preliminary study on the ecology of scrub typhus was conducted in a transmigration village Mulyorejo, Way AbungIII, Lampung Utara, Sumatra, Indonesia, in 1982. Serological examination on the human population revealed 11.9% seropositive against scrub typhus, being higher in males than in females, likewise also higher in adults than children. Seropositivity against scrub typhus among murid rodents captured was 42.9%. It was highest on Rattus exulans followed by Rattus tiomanicus. Two species of chigger vectors, Leptotrombidium (L.) deliensis and Leptotrombidium (LJ) fletcheri were found in the area studied. The infestation of those two species were highest on R. exulans and R. tiomanicus.
