- Background: The genetically determined epigenetic characteristics can be related to race, migration andgeographical separation patterns factor. The meaningfulness of these characteristics study is that we canestimate genes inheritance from human skeleton remains in the burial context, look for genetic relation tractamong acient population and give information about population dynamics. Nowadys, this study also plays animportant role in osteologic analysis; itmay particularly record bonematerials that is fragmentary, incomplete andlessmaintained fromthe remains of paleoanthropological or archaeological human. These studies can completeeach other andmay affirmthemetric features research results. Objective:The aimof this study is to find out thebiological difference and affinity of epigenetic andmetric characteristics of upper viscerocraniumfromthe skullsampel of Liang Bua, Lewoleba,Melolo and Ntodo Leseh in Nusa Tenggara Timur.Materials andmethods:Adults human skulls from the four sites have been selected according to anatomical–anthropological, sex, biological age, as well as epigenetic andmetric characteristics criteria. Kruskal-Wallis’ non-parametric analysisis applied to the quantitative data, whileAnova, Scheffe and Bivariate Scatterplot test are applied to the quantitativedata.Result and Conclusion:The biological differences and affinity of the epigenetic andmetric characteristicson Australomelanesid upper viscerocranium’ sample in Nusa Tenggara Timur are influenced by thechronologic of populationmigration, geographical separation, andmongolodisation process wichmore to theeast since PaleometallicAge. The epigenetic andmetric characteristics studies can complete each other andaffirm biological research results of human skeleton, without ignoring knowledge contributions and scientificmethods fromvarious discipline.
