- This paper studies the feasibility of organizing corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities through the incorporation of local culture. Local communities are often stereotyped as people who are uneducated, traditional or conservative and powerless and perceived as the hindrance for development. The failure to create a rapport and an understanding between the local community and the corporate bodies have been identified by previous researchers as the reason many development programs falls short from the expected outcome when in fact, it is pivotal to approach the local community strategically and in an in-depth manner to ensure the CSR program becomes a success. The finding of anthropologists such as Dove(1993), Netting (1985), Tjitradjaja (1994) and Lubis (1997) state that there were mistakes by former researches that berates the ability of the local people in developing personal development, effectively and sustainably. Their research, however, find that local communities in reality have the ability to develop institutions to facilitate sustainable personal development in economic, ecological and socio-cultural areas. Therefore, local wisdom has to be a considered in the development of CSR programs by corporate bodies to attain the aspired outcomesKeywords: corporate social responsibility, corporate culture, local knowledge.
