- Abstract: Background of the problem in this research was learning education like formal or non-formal education that still apply the concepts and theories, regardless of the skill of children for the future, so that children understand science only in terms of theory. When the child should be out of school, children did not have the skills to face life. Latitude Songo Boarding School had the goal that when students graduate from the school, students had the skills to live without relying nandiri with others. This study aimed to know how independence based learning system in mumps boarding latitude Songo. Factors inhibiting and supporters as well as the result of his study at the boarding school Latitude Songo. The results showed that the learning system used Mumps boarding Latitude Songo were: (1) the theory and practice (2) the example (3) rob appeal. The programs are taught self-reliance were: (1) enginering (2) Plantation (3) Fisheries (4) livestock.Keywords: Education, Self-Reliance, Boarding School
