- The existence of Islamic boarding school (pesantren) has been a great contribution for community in all aspects of life, either as preaching and educational institution or as a center of community development and empowerment. As for educational institution to mention one, Islamic Boarding Scholl Played a signifiant role, particularly in the process of knowledge transmission. This could be seen from the fact that a lot of Islamic boarding school’s alumni became well known muslim scholars or even political leaders both national and international levels. Some of them also have been religious leaders in their community. This article, hence, aims at elucidating the role of Islamic boarding school in the sphere of knowledge development. In Recent years, it has produced several educational institutions introducing and applying modern educational and learning systems.
