  • Abstract Almost one third (33.1%) of adults in North Sulawesi are overweight and obese than three times the national prevalence of 10.3%. Central obesity as risk factors for metabolic syndrome in North Sulawesi province has reached one in three adult population aged ≥15 years. The purpose of this study to determine the extent of the relationship between central obesity with the occurrence of hyperglycemia on religious leaders in the city of Manado. This type of study is an observational study and use cross-sectional study design. The population in this study were all religious leaders in the city of Manado totaled 6770 people. The sample in this study amounted to 147 people are determined based on inclusion and exclusion criteria that are taken by systematic random sampling. The prevalence of central obesity on the religious leaders in the city of Manado is 67% and the prevalence of hyperglycemia was 62.6% of 147 religious leaders in the city of Manado. There is a very significant relationship between the occurrence of central obesity with hyperglycemia in other words, central obesity is one of the originators of hyperglycemia on religious leaders in the city of Manado.
