- Abstrak Kajian bertujuan menganalisis media komunikasi yang digunakan pemustaka di Kawasan Puspiptek, ketika memerlukan layanan jasa informasi. Tujuan khusus adalah: 1) Mengetahui jenis- jenis media komunikasi yang digunakan; 2) Mengetahui jenis media komunikasi yang paling banyak digunakan; 3) Mengetahui alasan pemustaka menggunakan jenis media komunikasi tersebut. Digunakan metode deskriptif kuantitatif, dilengkapi wawancara dengan pengguna jasa informasi terkait alasannya menyukai jenis media komunikasi tersebut, selanjutnya disajikan secara deskriptif untuk mendukung dan memperkuat analisis kuantitatif. Dari penelitian disimpulkan sebagai berikut: 1) Jenis media komunikasi yang digunakan oleh pemustaka di Kawasan Puspiptek Serpong adalah e-mail, telepon, WhatsApp, datang langsung ke Perpustakaan; 2) Periode tahun 2014-2018, media komunikasi paling banyak digunakan oleh pemustaka adalah e-mail, diikuti WhatsApp (WA). Dilihat tren per tahun, tahun 2014-2015, e-mail merupakan media komunikasi yang paling banyak digunakan oleh pemustaka ketika membutuhkan layanan jasa informasi. Tahun 2016-2018, WhatsApp merupakan media komunikasi yang paling banyak digunakan oleh pemustaka ketika membutuhkan layanan jasa informasi. Tahun 2018 merupakan tahun WhatsApp, dimana hampir 90% layanan jasa informasi menggunakan WhatsApp sebagai media komunikasi; 3) E-mail banyak digunakan sebagai media komunikasi, karena pesan cepat terkirim ke penerima; tidak memerlukan biaya; praktis; aman; dapat menyertakan lampiran. WhatsApp banyak digunakan sebagai media komunikasi, karena aplikasinya simple (tidak memerlukan password); Langsung terhubung dengan nomor yang tersimpan di kontak hp; WhatsApp merupakan pengganti sms yang praktis dan tepat waktu untuk mengirim pesan; WhatsApp lebih unggul dibanding aplikasi chat lainnya, karena simpel dan mudah digunakan; aplikasi WhatsApp cukup ringan, hemat baterai, dan dapat menghemat data internet. Abstract The study aims to analyze the communication media used by users in the Puspiptek area, when it requires information services. Specific objectives are: 1) Knowing the types of communication media used; 2) Knowing the types of communication media that are most widely used; 3) Knowing the reason the user uses these types of communication media. Quantitative descriptive method is used, with interviews with information service users related to the reasons for liking the type of communication media, then presented descriptively to support and strengthen quantitative analysis. The research concludes as follows: 1) The type of communication media used by users in the Puspiptek Serpong Area is e-mail,telephone, WhatsApp, coming directly to the Library; 2) The 2014-2018 period, the most used communication media by users is e-mail, followed by WhatsApp (WA). Judging by the trend per year, 2014-2015, e-mail is the communication media that is most used by users when it needs information services. In 2016-2018, WhatsApp is the communication media that is most used by users when it needs information services. 2018 is the year of WhatsApp, where almost 90% of information services use WhatsApp as a communication medium; 3) E-mail is widely used as a communication medium, because messages are quickly sent to recipients; no cost; practical; secure; can include attachments. WhatsApp is widely used as a communication medium, because the application is simple (does not require a password); Directly connected to the number stored in the cellphone contact; WhatsApp is a substitute for SMS that is practical and timely to send messages; WhatsApp is superior to other chat applications, because it’s simple and easy to use; the WhatsApp application is quite light, saves battery life, and can save internet data.
