  • This research was conducted in Kasimbar and concerned with the parents who have drop-out school years at secondary schools/equivalent. The problems are that the first, what is the parents’ perception on their drop-out school years at secondary schools/equivalent in Kasimbar; the second, the causing factors of drop-out school years at secondary schools/equivalent in Kasimbar. The method used was descriptive-qualitative. The population was all the parents of the drop-out school years at secondary school/equivalent, totalling 147 families and the sample was 30 families by employing non-random sampling technique (quota sampling). The data were collected through questionnaire, interview, and documentation. The data from the questionnaire were analysed by using percentages and the interview results were analysed through three phases: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion/data verification. The research shows that there are two kinds of the parents’ perceptions on their drop-out school years at secondary schools/equivalent; they are less good and not good. The less good response was overlooked with the positive effect rather than the negative one. The positive one was that their children could help them to have a living. In contrast, the less good response was caused by the negative effect rather than the positive one. The positive one was that many parents feel that it is difficult for their children to get a job. In addition, the causing factors of the drop-out school years were that 1) economy, that is, their job as farmers who have low income under the expensive cost for education made them unable to provide school fees for their children; moreover, their busy activities in providing a living for their family caused them not to have time to give motivation to their children; 2) the environment, that is, many school years were influenced by their drop-out peers.
