  • The layered double hydroxides synthesis of Ni/Al and Ni/Cr have been done by coprecipitation method which followed by characterization using FT-IR spectrophotometer and XRD analysis. The materials of layered double hydroxides Ni/Al and Ni/Cr were used as congo red dye adsorbents. The result of XRD analysis showed that the layered double hydroxide Ni/Al has diffraction angles of 2θ at 10° and 60° that indicated the layered double hydroxide peak diffractions of Ni/Al at 11.7°, 23.6°, 35.1°, 39.7°, and 47.3° and also Ni/Cr at peak diffractions and different angles at 10°, 23°, 35°, and 39°. FT-IR spectrum showed the vibrations of Al-O, Ni-O, and O-H groups appeared wavenumbers at 563.21 cm-1, 840.96 cm-1, and 3471.87 cm-1 for both of layered double hydroxides. pH pzc of Ni/Al and Ni/Cr were resulted the early pH equal to the final pH as pH 10 that were considered stable and as the optimum pH for the adsorption process. The adsorption process of congo red use the pseudo-second-order equation where the effect of time variations on the layered double hydroxidesof adsorption rate Ni/Cr (0.1003 min-1) is greater than Ni/Al (0.0052 min-1) so the reactivity of Ni/Cr is greater than Ni/Al. The equation of Feundlich shows a Gibbs free energy (ΔG) is negative value that shows the congo red dye process occurs spontaneously. The adsorption capacity increased from Ni/Al 0.6293-5.9966 mg.g-1 dan Ni/Cr 0.7381 -6.8875 mg.g-1 along the increasing of the layered double hydroxides concentration where the layered double hydroxides of Ni/Cr is higher than Ni/Al.
