- One of dominant factors in students reading achivement is strategy of teaching reading comprehension. In this research, Widen, Avoid, Read, and Flex (WARF) strategy is considered to be appropriate to improve the students’ reading comprehension, because it involves the students to read material faster and comprehend their reading. The research problems could be formulated as follow: 1. How is students’ reading comprehension which is taugh by using WARF strategy of the eleventh grade at SMA Muhammadiyah I Pekanbaru? 2. How is students’ reading comprehension which is taugh without by using WARF strategy of the eleventh grade at SMA Muhammadiyah I Pekanbaru? 3. Is there any significant difference of the students’ reading comprehension which is taught by using WARF strategy of eleventh grade at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Pekanbaru and those who are not? The purposes of the research were to find out students’ reading comprehension taught by Widen, Avoid, Read, and Flex (WARF) strategy and without Widen, Avoid, Read, and Flex (WARF) strategy and to find out the significant difference of using Widen, Avoid, Read, and Flex (WARF) strategy to improve students’ reading comprehension of the eleventh grade students at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Pekanbaru. This research was experimental research, precisely a quasi-experimental design non-equivalent control group with the sample of this research was science major. There were seven meeting in giving treatment. The instruments of this research were observation and test. The participants were the eleventh grade students at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Pekanbaru. The research findings show that the improvement could be seen from the score of t-test. The total score is 5,032. Based on t-table 2,02<5,032>2,69. Therefore, it could be concluded that there is significant difference of using Widen, Avoid, Read, and Flex (WARF) strategy on reading comprehension of the eleventh grade students at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Pekanbaru. Widen, Avoid, Read and Flex strategy is an appropriate strategy that can be used by the students in reading material to get comprehension. This strategy can increase students’ reading comprehension and teacher can apply this strategy in teaching reading comprehension.
